Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 August 2026
In plain terms: we collect only what is strictly necessary to run your display and send our emails — never for advertising. No tracking cookies, no selling of data. A message to contact@smartledmessenger.com is all it takes to view, correct or erase what concerns you.
Who is responsible?
Smart Led Messenger, publisher of the smartledmessenger.com website and maker of the displays of the same name, is the data controller for the processing described here. For any question: contact@smartledmessenger.com.
What we collect, why, and for how long
| Data | Why | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Customer account: email address, password, display settings (including your messages and your city for the weather), personal key | To run your display — this is the service you ask us to provide | For as long as your account exists; deleted on simple request |
| Newsletter: email address, confirmed subscription date, unsubscription date | To write to you, only if you confirmed your subscription via the link received by email (double opt-in) | Until you unsubscribe — a record we keep in order to honour it; complete erasure on request |
| Display operation: device identifier, IP address, date of last connection | To help you troubleshoot and to monitor that the service works properly (legitimate interest) | Last connection only — no history kept |
| Order: purchase confirmation passed on by PayPal | To prepare and ship your order | Statutory accounting periods |
What we never see
Payment takes place entirely at PayPal: your banking details do not pass through our servers and we have no access to them. PayPal's privacy policy applies to this step.
Cookies and audience measurement
- A session cookie, solely to keep you signed in to the customer area (and an equivalent for our administration area). Essential, they serve no other purpose.
- Your theme preference (light/dark) is stored in your browser and is never sent to us.
- Audience measurement uses Umami, a tool we host ourselves: cookie-free, with no profiling, using aggregated and anonymous statistics.
- No advertising cookies, no third-party trackers. The PayPal purchase buttons, loaded only as the "offers" section comes into view, may set their own cookies during payment.
With whom is the data shared?
With no one for commercial purposes. Three technical providers are involved:
- our hosting provider, which runs the website and the database;
- Gandi, which delivers our emails (account creation, password reset, newsletter);
- PayPal, for payment.
The external services that feed the ticker (weather, air quality, saying of the day, news, Bitcoin price, Tempo colour) receive only the parameter that is strictly necessary — for example the name of your city for the weather — never your identity.
If you connect an AI assistant (Claude or another, via our MCP connector), it is your assistant that calls our servers with your personal key: we pass nothing on our side to the assistant vendors. The exchanges you have with your assistant are governed by its own privacy policy.
Your rights
In accordance with the GDPR, you may at any time request access to your data, its rectification, its erasure, the restriction of or objection to its processing, and its portability. Simply write to contact@smartledmessenger.com — we reply within one month at the latest.
Each newsletter also contains a one-click unsubscribe link. If you believe your rights are not being respected, you may lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL.
Security
The website is served over HTTPS, passwords are stored in hashed form, and access to the data is limited to the people who need it to operate the service. Your personal key acts as a command over your display: do not share it.
Changes to this policy
If our practices change, this page will be updated and the date at the top revised. Substantial changes will be announced through the newsletter.
